Step-by-step guide to set up SIP VoIP on the Huawei B618s-65d router for Kiwi VoIP service, including SIP server, account details, and recommended SIP ALG settings.

How to Configure SIP Settings on the Huawei B618s-65d for Kiwi VoIP

This guide explains how to configure the Huawei B618s-65d (also known as B618S-65D) router for use with Kiwi VoIP. Once set up correctly, you can plug a standard analog phone into the RJ11 port on the router and make and receive calls.

Before You Start

You will need:

  • Your Kiwi VoIP SIP account details (SIP username and password)
  • Access to the router’s web interface
  • A computer or device connected to the B618s-65d via Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Default router login details

  • IP address: 192.168.8.1 or 192.168.1.254
  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin (or the password printed on the sticker on the router)

Step 1: Log in to the Router

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Enter 192.168.8.1 or 192.168.1.254 in the address bar.
  3. Log in with the username and password.

Step 2: Configure the SIP Server

  1. Go to Settings → VoIP → SIP Server.
  2. Enter the following:
    • Proxy server address: sip.kiwivoip.co.nz
    • Proxy server port: 5060
    • Registration server address: sip.kiwivoip.co.nz
    • Registration server port: 5060
    • SIP server domain name: sip.kiwivoip.co.nz
  3. Click Apply.

Step 3: Add the SIP Account

  1. Go to Settings → VoIP → SIP Account.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter your Kiwi VoIP account details:
    • SIP Account: Your SIP username (e.g. 02825501460)
    • Username: Your SIP username (same as above)
    • Password: Your SIP password
  4. Click OK.

After saving, check the Registration Status. It should show as Registered.

Step 4: Disable SIP ALG (Important)

SIP ALG can cause one-way audio, registration problems, or dropped calls. We strongly recommend disabling it.

  1. Go to Settings → Security → SIP ALG Settings.
  2. Untick Enable SIP ALG.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Reboot the router.

Step 5: Test the Phone

  1. Plug an analog telephone into the RJ11 (phone) port on the back of the router.
  2. Lift the handset — you should hear dial tone.
  3. Make a test call to confirm both outbound and inbound calling work.

Troubleshooting

Issue Possible Solution
Not registering Double-check username, password, and server address. Reboot the router after changes.
No dial tone Confirm the SIP account shows as Registered and the phone is plugged into the correct port.
One-way audio or dropped calls Ensure SIP ALG is disabled and the router has been rebooted.
Cannot access the router Try both 192.168.8.1 and 192.168.1.254. Reset the router if the password has been changed and forgotten.
