Local Number Porting: A Comprehensive Guide to Transferring Your Phone Number to Kiwi VoIP

Moving to Kiwi VoIP and want to keep your existing phone number? No problem! You can port your local NZ number over to our platform quickly and easily.

Here’s everything you need to know to make the switch seamless.

🔄 Can I Keep My Current Number?

Yes — you can bring your current New Zealand local phone number with you when you move to Kiwi VoIP. Just be aware:

  • Porting a number may disconnect services tied to that number (e.g. broadband).

  • We can only port active numbers — don’t cancel your old provider until the port is complete.

  • After porting, contact your old provider to make sure you're no longer billed for unused services.

💡 If your number is part of a range, hunt group, or stepper line, include those details during the porting request to avoid delays or rejections.

🌏 What Regions Are Supported?

You can port your number from any New Zealand calling region to Kiwi VoIP.

📋 How to Port Your Number to Kiwi VoIP

You can initiate a port through your Kiwi VoIP customer portal or by contacting our team. Here's what you’ll need:

Required Information:

  • Your current service provider

  • The number(s) you want to port

  • The type of number (e.g. local landline)

  • Your account name & number with your current provider

  • A notification email for updates

  • A preferred porting date (AM or PM slot, business hours only)

Once submitted, we’ll process the port and keep you informed every step of the way.

🛠️ Managing Ports In Progress

You can track the status of your port from the “Manage Number Porting” section in the Kiwi VoIP portal. We’ll also send updates to the notification email you provided.

📡 Porting & Naked DSL

If you’re using or planning to move to Naked DSL:

  • Ask your internet provider to leave your number active and standalone during the Naked DSL switch

  • After installation, request a CustomerLink (or similar hold service)

  • Then submit the port request to Kiwi VoIP

🚫 Avoid porting and switching to Naked DSL at the same time — it may result in service disconnection.

⏱️ How Long Does It Take?

  • Standard ports take 5–7 business days

  • Complex ports (e.g. from resellers or 3rd parties) may require more time

  • We’ll work with you to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption
