📶 WiFi Calling with Kiwi VoIP Mobile
📱 What is WiFi Calling?
WiFi Calling allows you to use any compatible phone to talk and text over a WiFi connection—even if mobile coverage is unavailable.
Perfect for:
🏡 Rural or low-coverage areas
🌍 Travelling overseas
🏢 Office buildings or basements

Still nothing? Connect to iTunes.
✅ Step 2: Enable WiFi Calling in your phone settings
-
On iPhone: Settings → Mobile → WiFi Calling
-
On Samsung: Settings → Connections → WiFi Calling
-
Toggle ON
📶 You’ll know it’s working when you see:
-
“Kiwi VoIP WiFi Calling” on iPhone
-
📡 Phone + waves icon on Android
🌐 Using WiFi Calling
🗺️ In New Zealand
Your minutes and texts come from your existing Kiwi VoIP plan. Data use is minimal, but check if your WiFi connection charges apply.
✈️ Overseas
Treats most calls/texts as if you were in NZ—especially when calling NZ or AU numbers.
💡 Tip: Turn on Flight Mode, then enable WiFi & WiFi Calling only—this avoids roaming!
📞 Calls to other countries from overseas may incur roaming or international rates.
📶 WiFi Calling uses approx. 1MB per minute of voice.
❗ Things to Know
🚫 WiFi Calling won’t work on:
-
Some public/corporate WiFi networks
-
Emergency services overseas (use mobile network if available)
-
Civil Defence alerts when not on 2degrees mobile coverage
📵 WiFi Calling may disable 3G video calls. Contact support if you wish to restore this.
🌍 International Dialling Required When Overseas
Use the +CountryCode format (e.g., +64 for NZ). Save numbers this way to avoid confusion.
📶 What to Expect If Coverage Changes
-
Leave WiFi → Call will drop when WiFi signal weakens
-
Enter WiFi → Mobile call stays until finished, next call uses WiFi
-
Call may switch between WiFi and 4G (VoLTE) depending on signal quality
🧾 Data Usage Estimate
-
Voice calls: ~1MB per minute
-
Required bandwidth: 100–120 kbps
-
WiFi quality may affect call performance
🔐 Location and Privacy
Kiwi VoIP only receives country-level location data for billing accuracy.
🆘 Emergency Calls & Alerts
-
Will default to mobile network when available
-
If no mobile signal, WiFi emergency calls may fail
-
NZ emergency mobile alerts will only work with 2degrees coverage, not just WiFi
